In a world of increasingly conscious sustainability and environmental impact, Recycling & Waste Reduction (RWR) is blazing a trail by transforming traditional waste disposal into a dynamic, customer-centric service. A hands-on collaboration that dives deep into each client’s needs and develops bespoke waste management and recycling programs means that no client is ever just a revenue stream for RWR. Rather, they are valued partners on a shared journey toward environmental responsibility.

RWR brings more than just cost-cutting for its clients. While many companies focus solely on reducing expenses, RWR’s waste management strategy encompasses much more. It strives to balance financial efficiency with environmental impact, helping clients maximize their recycling efforts and move toward zero landfill goals. By embedding themselves into clients’ operations, RWR acts as a dedicated team member, ensuring optimal waste disposal processes and sustainable outcomes.

We don’t just handle their trash or provide equipment but optimize their entire waste stream. We help them evaluate what they are discarding and examine their packaging practices.

Lynn Dornak, president of RWR, sheds light on the approach. “There are two primary drivers for every client we partner with; a financial desire to lower waste costs and manage carbon footprint and landfill contributions,” she explains. “That’s where we come in. We don’t just handle their trash or provide equipment but optimize their entire waste stream. We help them evaluate what they are discarding and examine their packaging practices—Can they reuse that package? Can they reuse that pallet?”

This holistic perspective is the hallmark of RWR. For example, many of its manufacturing clients use large, heavy-duty Gaylord boxes. RWR explores ways for these clients to reintegrate these boxes into their systems, extending their use and reducing waste. This approach helps clients cut costs, enhance their recycling efforts and minimize waste—showcasing how RWR is no ordinary waste management company.

Transparency is evident not only in RWR’s waste management processes but in its billing practices as well. When clients receive their invoices, they also receive detailed reports that break down the material leaving their site, providing a price per ton.
This clarity helps clients understand their expenses and enables RWR to monitor efficiency. If the price per ton decreases, it’s a sign that waste is effectively managed, but if it increases, the RWR team promptly investigates the reasons behind it. Besides immediate redressal of problems, the team also evaluates the effectiveness of its solutions through weekly, monthly and quarterly reviews to ensure continuous improvement and accountability.

Long-term relationships with clients, some spanning over 25 years, further attest to RWR’s adaptability as processes evolve. The company always stays updated on market changes, new recycling options and emerging technologies to provide the most current and effective waste management solutions.

One of the best examples is a large manufacturer of electronic breakers for commercial entities that became RWR’s customer in 2013. When they first partnered, RWR assessed their waste disposal processes and introduced three different pieces of equipment to optimize their operations. By making strategic changes to their recycling methods, the client saved approximately $82,000 within the first 12 months.

Impressed by RWR’s cost-saving measures and comprehensive reports, the client also wanted RWR to manage their metal recycling, where they generate about 400,000 pounds of metal each month. Two years into managing their metal recycling, RWR received a call from the manufacturer informing them they were nominated for the client’s small business award.

“We were thrilled and honored to win the award, which recognized our efforts in saving them over $250,000 in one year,” recalls Dornak.

Such successes stem from being deeply involved in vendor and customer relationships, ensuring clear communication and effective solutions. The resulting long-standing relationships with many clients are a testament to its reliable and efficient services. Word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied customers continue to be a significant source of new business, underscoring its value.

RWR takes immense pride in its work, embracing every challenge and success of waste management with equal enthusiasm. By consistently pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in waste management, RWR not only meets but exceeds client expectations, making sustainability a reality for all.
