Huhtamaki stands as a global leader in sustainable packaging solutions for the food and beverages industry. Its innovative products cater to on-the-go and on-the-shelf food and beverages, as well as personal care products. Even in industrial market segments, Huhtamaki prioritizes hygiene, accessibility and safety for consumers worldwide to reduce food waste and mitigate the environmental impact of climate change.
By combining high-precision technology, world-class engineering, science, and leadership, Huhtamaki is crafting solutions that meet both what consumers want and what the planet needs. The company’s Fiber Solutions are particularly noteworthy, combining renewable and sustainable raw materials with high-precision technology to deliver cutting-edge sustainable packaging.
As consumer demands for sustainable alternatives grow and regulatory requirements intensify, Huhtamaki positions itself as the go-to partner for sustainable packaging through its advanced technologies. One standout innovation is its fiber lids with a secure, spill-proof fit and a versatile sip hole to drink hot or cold beverages. Free of plastic coatings, they use fully renewable resources like natural bagasse and wood fiber to address the critical issue of accumulating and unaddressed plastic waste.
Revolutionizing frozen dessert packaging, Huhtamaki’s ICON line sets new standards with its paperboard technologies. ICON’s pint-sized, seal-proof and ice-cream-friendly containers are made from SFI-certified smart paperboards with a water-based, re-pulpable coating. This innovation replaces traditional polyethylene and encourages recycling with local community programs, due to its 95 percent renewable biobased material composition. The goal is to eliminate 1.3 tons of polyethylene per 1 million cups, remove 21 tons of paperboard from landfills for every 1 million recycled cups and recover over 90 percent of paper fiber.
“Real change requires collective action, and our position is very clear—waste is a valuable secondary material. We will continue to work collectively across our value chain to deliver systemic change and develop packaging solutions with a net positive impact,” says Charles Héaulmé, President and CEO of Huhtamaki.
